harmonious blend
The vision for this coastal retreat was a harmonious blend of modern sophistication and contemporary coastal charm. These clients have meticulously transformed their home, undertaking renovations in thoughtful stages. The final phase encompassed the Kitchen, Living Room, and Powder Room, building upon the success of earlier projects, including the award-winning Main Bathroom and Laundry. These accolades instilled a deep trust, granting us creative freedom to craft an extraordinary design for these new spaces.
The Main Bathroom brief centred on creating a calm, day-spa-like retreat for our clients as they entered a new phase of living. Open to exploration, they entrusted us to shape a space that felt both restorative and elevated.
Moving away from a conventional, rectilinear bathroom layout, Birdblack Design introduced a softer architectural language: defined by gentle curves and continuous forms. Ledges and niches were carefully integrated, particularly surrounding the bath and within the shower, maintaining both function and visual clarity.
A singular, continuous ledge was conceived to unify the space, extending from the bath to the vanity, incorporating the basin, and flowing seamlessly through to the shower and around the toilet. This gesture creates cohesion, rhythm, and a sense of quiet fluidity throughout.
Set within a coastal context, the Laundry was conceived as a modern, pared-back space: defined by clarity, light, and a restrained palette. With a largely open brief, Birdblack Design approached the space holistically, prioritising function and efficiency while maintaining a clean, resolved aesthetic.
