Birdblack Design was engaged to zhoosh up this grand living space, and zhoosh we did!

The Ground Floor consists of an enormous open-plan space for living and entertaining. This family hosts events weekly, with between 16 and 20 guests at any time, so both space and functionality are imperative for this busy and fun-loving family.

The Living Wing includes the formal dining and lounge rooms, the kitchen, a butler’s pantry, the laundry, an informal dining room, study and the family room. This space is excessively open-plan, with no doors separating any of the rooms. This makes this entire space easy to walk through, particularly when entertaining and carrying multiple platters of food and drinks. Every vantage point of this open space displays cohesion throughout and the many highlight windows allow plenty of natural light to flood the rooms, bouncing light off many of our stunning features.

The Dining and Lounge rooms are zoned from up above by a coffered ceiling, providing a structural hold for the Upper Floor. You notice immediately the amount of space, ensuring there is adequate space for 20 people to mingle and move around the room effortlessly without bumping into the furniture also required for entertaining large groups. Birdblack Design was engaged at the end of the build for Furniture Selections, so we truly were able to provide for this family perfectly, completely understanding their requirements and design brief.

The Bar in the Dining Room is a notable feature. We desired the Dining Room to be dark and moody; giving it far more formal and luxurious aesthetic. Dark timber grounds this space, whilst utilising a mirror splashback opens the space, allowing light to bounce throughout the room. Of course, ‘Redgum Ridge’ opted for custom made furniture to suit their monumental entertaining needs. Stunning brass and marble are evident throughout the Ground Floor, as are the glass, black and metallic finishes which trail throughout the home, including in all the feature lighting

Speaking of entertaining, let’s move to the Kitchen area which includes the kitchen, a butler’s pantry and the laundry. Here the Kitchen Island is the main focal point. We note the beautiful dark chocolate tones and the breakfast bar bringing warmth into the space. The flooring is a fabulous timber tile, bringing the warmth of timber, but not the maintenance. Tiling is much more user friendly. The stunning glass and matte black pendant lights are fluid throughout this entire living space.

A quaint Family Room just off the kitchen is complete with a double-sided fireplace. Within this room, we utilised existing mustard yellow furniture and maintained the warm palette with mustard, gold and green accents throughout. Next to the Family Room is the informal Dining Room for the immediate family to utilise on a daily basis as opposed to disrupting the formal spaces for a casual Tuesday morning breakfast.
