ZEPHYR RESIDENCE

This eclectic home was renovated to highlight the homeowners’ treasures – years of collectables and memories from their travels. Whilst Birdblack Design renovated the Kitchen, Main Bathroom, Sitting Room and Fireplace, we see a thoughtful collision of the old world meeting the new.

The highlight colour of green is seen throughout this home transformation. It creates an ideal backdrop to the bright pops of colour found in the homeowners’ teacup collection .

KITCHEN
Our clients’ teacup collection was the source of inspiration for the colours and pattern chosen to adorn this kitchen.

Within the Kitchen, the transformation went from dark to light with walls being removed and structural beams installed to allow for the new open plan design. The highest priority for this renovation was to bring light into the space. The old dining room was extremely dark, and our clients no longer wanted to feel trapped by this. With the removal of walls, a new lighting design and the installation of skylights, we were able to flood natural light into every corner of this space. To ground the space, we laid the floor with solid timber, bringing warmth into the space.

The kitchen bodes an expansive work and prep zone. The practical layout of appliances, storage, display units and uninterrupted benchtop space on the island means that this Kitchen is a functional dream. We even incorporated a washing machine, hidden on the back side of the island.

Flowing up from the soft white tone of the porcelain benchtop is our showstopping Ming green marble splashback. So stunning is this natural stone, that we surpassed the splashback, wrapped it around the window and took it right up the ceiling.

The black accent is tastefully distributed through the cabinetry leading to the freestanding cooker where the family enjoys cooking the nightly meal together.

SITTING ROOM
We can easily see that this is an entertainer’s kitchen but just around this corner is a special nook that we created as a place to unwind and curl up with a book. Custom joinery makes this a wonderful sanctuary of books and art.

FIREPLACE
The existing fireplace has been transformed to mirror the green marble of the kitchen splashback, this time with gorgeous mermaid-tail tiles.

BATHROOM
With a nod to the art deco era, we ensured that the playfulness of colour also made its way into this room. The green and pink highlights are a match made in heaven. They come together effortlessly in this Bathroom and despite the room being quite small, Birdblack Design was able to create a room that stands on its own with flair.

The softness of the white marble benchtop contrasts with the highlight of black, again tying back to the elements in the living spaces. This bathroom now boasts with function compared to its previous counterpart.
