‘Sea Spray Residence’ is located in the Northern suburbs of the Illawarra with picturesque ocean views and is a refreshing fusion of Hamptons Glam and Australian Coastal Living. Birdblack Design was engaged for a Full Home Design Package.

Our exterior finishes accentuated the traditional Hamptons style with soft blues, greys and, of course the iconic crisp white, evoking a coastal appeal.

Entering the feature blue front door, the opulence of a traditional Hamptons foyer welcomes you into the grandeur of the home. The Staircase draws your eye with its crisp white and oak timber finishes, showcasing intricate details. The herringbone oak timber flooring flows throughout the entire Ground Floor.

The Living Room is to the left and perfect for grabbing a spot of peace and quiet away from the main hub of the home. The coffered ceiling: a typical design element that you’ll find in Hampton homes. Tucked around the corner is the family Study which has brilliant views to the front garden.

Past the Staircase, is the main thoroughfare of the home, specifically designed to suit this family with young children. Birdblack Design specified a Mudroom. The Mudroom allows the family to drop off shoes, school bags, coats and umbrellas without having to trail them throughout the home. There is also a cleverly designed Laundry Chute within this space on the Ground Floor that is utilised by the family from the Bedroom Wing on the First Floor.

Directly opposite the Mudroom is our Guest Powder Room. The Powder Room complete with a toilet, basin and shower, is primarily for guests, but functions as a second bathroom.  A chevron porcelain floor tile imported from Italy lines the floor; featuring variations of greys.

The feature wall tile is a natural marble chevron mosaic, running floor to ceiling. Divine! The custom made vanity, manufactured from walnut timber, as is the open-shelving opposite, perfect for candles and lotions. The timber brings warmth and noble character. All the bathrooms have been adorned with traditional style tapware and accessories, adding an extra layer of charm.

The Laundry continues the same chevron tiles. True to Birdblack Design style, we ensured this room is filled with maximum storage: full height cabinetry (perfect for linen storage, mops and buckets), ample bench space, three pull-out hampers, sink and hanging rail. The Laundry boasts natural light, so specifying the cabinetry white and bright was a no-brainer. Needing a pop of colour, Birdblack Design introduced a sea blue undulated splashback tile, completing the coastal aesthetic.

Entering the heart of the home, where the family spends the majority of their time, Birdblack Design boasts this layout one of their best creative designs, giving maximum functionality from all the different rooms adjoining this space. With dual access to the Kitchen from the entertaining side (the Lounge/Dining Room) and also from the Garage/Mudroom zone via the Walk-In Pantry. If you enter via the back, the WIP is completely tucked out of sight. The Walk-in Pantry itself has been split into two zones. One zone is the Butler’s Pantry with sink and pantry storage; the second zone houses the integrated fridge/freezer and smaller appliances. Having smaller appliances set aside in your Walk-In Pantry allows daily use without being on display in your Kitchen.

Speaking of the Kitchen, let’s head straight into this showstopper!

The Kitchen centres on a large Island Bench – the perfect spot to sit and chat. The tulip glass pendant lights above the Island add a simple elegance to the space. The fusion of Hamptons Glam and Aussie Coastal Living is evident in the cabinetry finishes. A gorgeous highlight blue is seen on the Island as well as in the Home Bar display. Paired with a smoky glass splashback, this look is divine. A crisp white is seen on all the remaining cabinetry, complementing that blue beautifully.

Carrara marble is featured throughout this home in multiple rooms. The Kitchen is no exception, with a Carrara marble splashback behind the freestanding cooker. As Hamptons design lends itself to symmetry, Birdblack Design incorporated framed glass display cabinets on either side of the cooker.

Additionally, this Kitchen links with the Outdoor Alfresco Dining and Outdoor Kitchen complete with built-in BBQ and sink. The benchtop extends through a bi-fold window, allowing you to pass through food and drinks when entertaining.

From the Kitchen, we head into the Dining Room and Lounge Room. An incredible beaded chandelier sits spectacularly over the Dining Table and can be viewed throughout this entire open plan.

The Lounge Room replicates symmetry with the fireplace sitting centre stage. The fireplace is surrounded by natural marble and the mantle provides an elegant backdrop. On either side of the fireplace, we have symmetrical display cabinets.

Open shelving with a seagrass wallpaper backing complements the greens and blues trailed throughout the home. The Samsung Frame TV, when not in use, looks like a piece of art. Fantastically innovative!

Leading up the Staircase to the First Floor are three Bedrooms for the children, as well as the Main Bathroom. This Main Bathroom has been designed to adapt to the children as they grow older. With a separate toilet and basin, there will be no congestion as they hit their teenage years.

This spacious and lavish zone will not date easily. The marble-look tiles provide an elegant base. The freestanding bath contrasts spectacularly against the sea blue herringbone tile. Birdblack Design incorporated a double basin vanity with large, round, oversized mirrors. The shower has been designed to be generously proportioned. The toilet is tucked around the corner for added privacy.

You enter the Master Bedroom Suite through Double French Doors to find a raked ceiling with exposed beams. The accentuated height of this room immediately translates into luxurious Hamptons. Of course, this Master Suite has its own balcony, overlooking both the escarpment and ocean.

Enclosed robes are found within the Master Bedroom and an open style Walk-In Robe exists in an adjoining room. The Walk-In Robe made from man-made walnut timber adds warmth to the fresh white palette of the Master Bedroom. From the Walk-In Robe, there is access to the Master Ensuite, allowing morning routines to be implemented without waking your partner. The Master Ensuite creates symmetry through double vanities surrounding the freestanding bath. The vanity units are custom made in a soft pale blue, complementing the grey veins in the floor tile. The flooring is a natural marble mosaic, offset by crisp white wall panelling.

An oversized shower has been designed with built-in seat clad in marble look stone. For privacy, the toilet is tucked around the corner. The freestanding bath is casually positioned by the double hung windows to ensure ocean views whilst soaking. We want to climb in right now and consider the wonder that is ‘Sea Spray Residence’.
