Partnering with Innovation Building and Design, Birdblack Design created a wonderful new home for our home owners. The original property was a small family home with a detached granny flat. Birdblack Design knocked down multiple walls throughout, redefining the spaces and joining the family home to the granny flat and creating a brand- new home, complete with an Alfresco Dining Area to DIE FOR!

Birdblack Design implemented the Turnkey Strategy with this project – the crème de la crème of design packages. This means that after both the design and selection phases, our clients did not see any of the construction phases. They left their home one way, and the next time they saw it, absolutely everything was brand new according to their selections! Birdblack Design fashioned a bow on the front door, and with champagne in tow, we welcomed our clients to their “brand new” home. Watching their expressions as we revealed each new aspect was so fantastic and they were completely blown away, witnessing the entire transformation for the very first time!

The exterior features subtle blues, calming greys and whites, denoting the perfect cottage feel (despite being grandiose in size inside). The new cladding painted beautifully gives a very modern approach, and hints to the aesthetic you will discover inside.

The main entry is a clean and clear open space. Birdblack Design knocked down walls, installed linen cupboards and plenty of storage. The first room is the designated home study and office. Heading down a hallway to the right is the bedroom wing: the two children bedrooms and the guest bedroom.

The kids’ bedrooms are beautifully large spaces, allowing much of their play equipment to be stored individually and not cluttering every single room of the home, which we know any parent would appreciate. Additionally, the bedrooms will be sufficient until the children are well into their teenage years, with plenty of storage for all their teenage clothes, shoes and beauty/hygiene products. Birdblack Design pride ourselves on designing family homes that will age with our clients perfectly.

The Main Bathroom is a majestic place! It is a huge and bright space with an accentuated new 2.7metre ceiling. In this room, there are two zones: the dry zone consists of the toilet, basin and alcove. The wet zone consists of a large walk-in shower with a rainwater shower from the ceiling, a rail-shower head, a gorgeous niche and a delightful bath. Undeniably, the stand-out feature is the fabulous, geometrically shaped bath. Fashioned so that two people can sit shoulder-to-shoulder, this is perfect for a young family or a lover’s retreat. This exquisite piece took five months to create and was sent to Wollongong all the way from Germany. Birdblack Design knows no limits when it comes to spectacular designs.

Our clients loved their original Kitchen, so we carefully removed the Kitchen; we then installed gorgeous new engineered oak flooring and re-installed the Kitchen, ensuring the flooring sat perfectly underneath all the joinery. To accentuate the Kitchen’s functionality, we opted to extend storage by way of new joinery in a matching oak, contrasting perfectly with the original white Kitchen.

Coming off the Kitchen is a grand barn door, leading to a concealed Butler’s Pantry and Laundry. The continuity between the Kitchen and Laundry is perfect. The cabinetry matches the light oak palette in the Kitchen. This fabulous space includes a wrap-around benchtop; under-bench washing machine, clothes dryer and dishwasher; along with a sink, appliance cupboard, coffee machine and full height pantry. The Butler’s Pantry is absolutely perfect when entertaining: it hides everything behind the barn door and allows the Kitchen and Living areas to shine!

LIVING AREAS: Lounge and Dining
The northern and western walls lead to the Alfresco Dining Area, Swimming Pool and Backyard respectively. These two walls are fitted out with full length stacker doors with fully retractable flyscreens. Both the stacker doors and flyscreens retract into the walls and only need a space of approximately 10cm wall to be accurately installed. MAGIC!!

The best room of the house: the Alfresco Dining Area! Complete with a new roof covering, this space can be utilised all year round. The partial roof allows sunlight through, but keeps the rain at bay. A custom-made outdoor Kitchen with a BBQ, huge concrete benchtops, washing up sink AND bar fridges, our clients and their guests may never go back inside. With solid Blackbutt timber decking, new lighting, new ceiling fans AND new heaters, they may never have to!

Next to the outdoor Kitchen is the most fabulous fireplace. Featuring black bricks in a herringbone pattern, this stunning fireplace is complete with a concrete cantilevered ledge, allowing you to sit right by the fire with a lovely glass of wine. Birdblack Design describes this as ABSOLUTE PERFECTION.

PARENTS’ QUARTERS: The New Extension
The Powder Room here relates to the Main Bathroom: matte black tapware and accessories, a neutral grey and white palette. The Home Bar sits beautifully under the staircase with gorgeous brushed gold tapware adding subtle bling to a dark and moody Home Bar space.

Heading upstairs, we enter the Master Suite – a haven complete with Walk-In Robes, glamorous Ensuite and Master Bedroom. Skylights overhead allow natural light to flood in through the Master Suite. Opposite the Ensuite are customised His and Hers Robes in a beautiful walnut timber. Into the Master Bedroom, the walnut timber robes continue through for the more day-to-day items.

The Ensuite is our absolute favourite room of the home with wonderfully bodacious teal green tiles with gold patterned overlay. The Ensuite houses the toilet, a custom-made vanity of walnut timber and a divine Omvivo oversized white basin. The large walk-in shower incorporates a rainwater shower head, a rail-shower head and lovely, large shower seat. Matte black tapware and accessories ground the space.
