Welcome to Sunny Day Studio, located in Berry, NSW. Owner Michelle was very specific to both the location and style of homewares she wanted to sell. Sunny Day specialises in Japandi, a Japanese/Scandinavian fusion, trending worldwide in Western countries.

One of the key components in Japandi is minimalism: zero clutter, everything placed perfectly in its place – a beautiful curation of high-quality items on display. The materiality was kept simple to tie in with the Japandi brief: thick, solid, light oak timbers for the open shelving and for the product tables. There is varied loose furniture in the centre of the space that can be moved and utilised for special events and product launches.

The main showcase was to house plentiful live greenery. For this, Birdblack Design created overhead hanging display units to allow the plant-life to shine. We incorporated warm, soft lighting to highlight the Scandinavian practice of hygge, which embraces comfort, cosiness and well-being. The flooring is a combination of polished concrete and the original timber flooring. Retaining the flooring lends into the ancient Japanese philosophy of Wabi-Sabi, celebrating contentment and simplicity.
