Sarah Nolen
Business Director
Sarah is the owner and founder of Birdblack Design. A qualified Interior Designer since 2006, Sarah has been taking dreams and turning them into realities for nearly two decades. Launching Birdblack Design in 2014, Sarah desired to create a design studio that provided a new offering to the market, where function and beauty meet hand-in-hand.
Stuart Gibson
Director of Design
Stuart’s career began designing parts of the 2000 Sydney Olympic Village. Over the course of 25 years, Stuart has worked with several reputable Interior Designers; his career spanning from residential to commercial, right through to landscape architecture. Stuart leads our Interior Design department with an unparalleled design skillset. His visionary talent shines in his ability to bring purposeful function to any space, transforming ideas into thoughtful, practical design solutions.
Alex Holmes
Interior Designer
Originally from Colorado, USA, Alex moved to Australia in 2015 and very quickly settled into Wollongong. Alex’s creative ability and confidence in her knowledge is an asset across the entire design process. Alex has a holistic design mindset and has the ability to transform her designs with a considered layer of furniture and décor that elevates each project.

Interior Designer
Peita is an Interior Designer specialising in high-end residential projects, creating homes that are as beautiful as they are liveable. With a sharp eye for detail and a passion for thoughtful design, she loves transforming a client’s vision into spaces that are both inspiring and practical.
Naomi Hudson
Studio Manager
Naomi brings order and flair to Birdblack life. Skilled with the processes of critical thinking, experimentation, investigation and problem solving, Naomi has numerous unique creative perspectives and flourishes in her role as a result. Clients, trades, and suppliers alike reap the rewards of their interactions with Naomi.
Laura May
Creative Content Manager
Laura joined Birdblack as a copywriter in 2019. From there, the role of Creative Content Manager was introduced. With a keen desire to capture the designers’ and curators’ creative processes, she translates and communicates their visions, bridging the gap between their inspiration and the wider audience.
