Team Faves: Stuart

If you have been with us over the summer, you will know that Stuart Gibson joined Birdblack Design in November of 2020 as a Senior Designer. Stu has slotted in perfectly into our team: in skill, experience and knowledge, but also in personality. If you’d like our formal introduction to Stu, read our Meet the Team Series where we discover Stuart as a young man; his education, family and life passions.

Stu is a family man through and through. Get to know his wife Sam, as well as Hugo and Heidi (his adorable kids) along the Birdblack Design journey!
Stu’s leading lady, Samantha, the love of his life for over 20years.

A quick note on dress codes: whilst you will permanently see Stu in the Studio or onsite in his professional blacks, you can absolutely guarantee he’s rocking plenty of colourful and outlandish shirts on the weekends! WE LOVE!

Quick Team BD Q&A:

1. CREATIVE DIVERSITY WITHIN TEAM BD: Describe your favourite kind of style, detailing why you love it.

From Stu:

My personal favourite style would have to be Hampton’s Glam. Whether coastal or rural, this is such a timeless classic and truly transportable to any terrain. As mentioned above, family is very important to Sam and I. We spend a lot of our time with our extended families, and in time, it would awesome for us to have a Hampton’s home; by the beach or on a few acres, I’m easy either way! When I imagine our little ones producing little ones of their own, and our family gaining another generation, I see it happening in a Hampton’s style home.

Stu loved seeing ‘Sea Spray Residence’ come to life right before he joined Team BD.

2. Summer Holidays in 2020.

From Stu:

Summer is almost over, but summer holidays for me have always been about relaxing with all my family and friends; eating and drinking and watching the sunset over the escarpment!

This year, like so many others, our long drive to the Gold Coast was cancelled which had been our back-up plan as originally we were meant to be in Hawaii haha. Two cancelled holidays, but as we all know, the whole world had changed plans!

Instead, we enjoyed our time at the beach or backyard pool with the kids, as well as going out to local restaurants as much as possible as a young family. Thankfully we have lots of family close by, and that’s what’s most important for us.

A Daddy and Hugo day, down at Jamberoo Recreation Park. A great family-friendly water park for non-locals reading!

3. Fave BD project you have personally worked on and why.

From Stu:

In case you couldn’t guess from the pics up top, my favourite Birdblack Design project (prior to joining the team) was ‘Sea Spray Residence’.

Now that I’ve joined the team, my teeth are firmly sinking into multiple grand designs! Two of my current favourites are ‘Pase Residence’, a rural Hamptons Full Home Design, and ‘Canyonleigh Residence’ in the Southern Highlands – a much more masculine modern contemporary design. Enjoy a Sneak Peek: my personally crafted moodboards and flatlays for both projects.

Just like Mary Poppins, don’t we all wish we could jump into this image?!

A very different design style to Hampton’s, but Stu is no cookie-cutter designer!
Dark, moody and glamorous

Hope you enjoyed getting a little taste-tester from me. See you onsite or in the Studio in my professional blacks, are at a local beach or restaurant with my family and magnificent shirts!
