6 years of Award-Winning Designs

Today is our 6th Birthday!!! What a whirlwind it has been. A delightful, challenging, creative, complex time to be sure – but without a shadow of a doubt, the immediate and exponential growth and success of Birdblack Design is just WONDERFUL!

Let’s stroll down Memory Lane as we showcase some of our favourite projects, our diverse passion for unique styles and celebrate all things from Coastal Hamptons to Modern Industrial to Traditional Glam! Birdblack Design has never been a cookie cutter design company and we are so pleased to deliver bespoke homes, perfect for our individual clients, day in and day out!

‘Sea Spray Residence’ Kitchen centres around an Island Bench – the tulip glass pendant lights above add a simple elegance. Joinery Manufacturer: Steve’s Joinery Building Design: South Coast Building Design Build: Souter Constructions

The fusion of Hamptons Glam and Aussie Coastal Living is evident here in the cabinetry finishes. A gorgeous highlight blue is seen on the Island as well as in the Home Bar display with custom perforated steel inlays in the overhead cabinets. A crisp white is seen on all the remaining cabinetry, complementing that blue beautifully.

The staircase draws your eye with its crisp white and oak timber finishes, showcasing intricate details. Joinery Manufacturer: Steve’s Joinery Building Design: South Coast Building Design Build: Souter Constructions

The custom designed panelling and detailing on the walls translate a traditional element of Hamptons Glam. Birdblack Design specified oversized skirting boards complete with beautiful carvings designed into them. The herringbone-patterned oak timber flooring runs smoothly throughout the entire Ground Floor.

In Wollongong, where BD is located, we are blessed to have coastline all around – perfect for a Hampton’s style home. Having said that, a Hampton’s home is DIVINE amongst the countryside, with all that shrubbery and greenery abounding.

The balance of cool tones and warm tones is imperative in Modern Industrial homes. Timbers, coppers, tan leathers – these can balance out metals, concrete and stone to create the ‘Ranchby Residence’ Industrial style.

With a relatively new home, we had to be quite creative with how we managed the aesthetic of this home. Birdblack Design opted for innovative ‘weathering’ of this home, to make it look older and therefore more industrial than it actually is.

We installed three steel beams, painted in a rusted finish to give the effect that the beams were being ‘uncovered’, however the beams are a brand new element to the home. We achieved the aesthetic our clients desired without starting with an aging home. Creative and innovative design at its best!

This marvellous dark emerald green really packs a punch. Paired with a gorgeous double hammered copper sink, tan leather breakfast bar stools, and copper lighting over the island, this Kitchen is certainly warm and inviting.

The solid timber benchtop with vertical slat waterfall end is fitted with LED strip lighting around the benchtop. This feature lighting is spectacular at night, highlighting the pattern and the definition of the timber waterfall end, adding to the Industrial design of ‘Ranchby Residence’.

Black and white elements with glamorous pops ooze opulence and luxury at ‘Redgum Ridge’. Building Design: JIH Building Design Builder: Kordovan Homes Joinery Manufacture: Mandziys Just Joinery

Stunning brass and marble are evident throughout the Ground Floor, as are the glass, black and metallic finishes which trail throughout the home, including the feature lighting.

The Bar in the Dining Room is a notable feature. We desired the Dining Room to be dark and moody; giving it far more formal and luxurious aesthetic. Dark timber grounds this space. Utilising a mirror splashback opens the space, allowing light to bounce throughout. ‘Redgum Ridge’ opted for custom-made furniture to suit their monumental entertaining needs.

Stunning oak timber and gorgeous shimmery metallic tiles in all bathrooms create cohesion. Every bathroom also features striking pendant lighting as well as warm toned marble-look porcelain.

At ‘Fundamental Health’ in Canberra, ACT, we chose contemporary colours: a calming blue, a peachy pink coupled with a divine aquamarine green and a crisp white. This palette is a winner!

Contemporary can be tricky – because contemporary in particular is ever-changing and evolving. In the 1990’s for example, Classic Contemporary would have been white all over. Birdblack Design passionately stays on top of (and often ahead of) the trends. Then we implement them into your homes and businesses!

‘Fundamental Health’ desired a homely aesthetic – not a sterile medical clinic; something that communicates, “I am here to help you”.

By choosing clever materials and a soothing colour palette; home, hope and care is communicated to all patients.
